Gerwyn Price regained his top spot in the PDC Order of Merit after defeating José de Sousa in the quarter-finals of the World Matchplay on Friday evening. Earlier he saw outgoing number one Peter Wright lose to Dimitri van den Bergh in the last eight.
Price previously held the number one position from January 2021 to March 2022. Price is only the fifth player and first non-English player ever to become number one of the world for the second time.
In the past only Rod Harrington, Colin Lloyd, Phil Taylor and Alan Warriner preceded him. Incidentally, Lloyd was the quickest to regain the number one spot in the world rankings.
