Price on being introduced as World Champion and World Number One for first time: "If that roar of the crowd was there, it would have been extra special"

Gerwyn Price was introduced as World Champion and World Number One for the first time during his opening tie against Joe Cullen at The Masters.

Price came back with a bang after his triumph at the Alexandra Palace with a 104.37 average winning 10-3 and he discussed being introduced for the first time albeit with no crowd.

"If that roar of the crowd was there it would have been extra special, it was good but not what I thought.

"I was edgy first couple of legs but I knew Joe wasn't hitting or scoring like against Michael in the World's. I was expecting him to come back firing with a bit more and he wasn't."

Potential new darts

He toyed with the idea of using new darts on his Instagram story this past week and like many with new equipment, he is set to use them in a ProTour instead.

"I know this isn't a ranked event but it's still televised and it's the first one after I'd won the World's so I wanted to start with a positive rather than a negative so I'll leave those ones until after this tournament is finished and maybe use them in one of the first ProTours."

Facing Lewis

Next up is Adrian Lewis who he has had some needle with before but Price insists that is firmly behind them.

"We've had our differences in the past but he's a good bloke and we get on quite well now. It'll be a good game."
