Gerwyn Price has set the tone for Players Championship 13 with a dominant win. 'The Iceman' excelled with an average of 113 and was far too strong for Mensur Suljovic (6-1). Meanwhile Rob Cross was stunned by Christian Perez, who was making his first appearance since winning a Tour Card (6-5).

Played in Hildesheim, the Dutch duo of Dirk van Duijvenbode and Danny Noppert both safely secured progression to the last 64. Both Dutchmen comfortably won their first round. Van Duijvenbode triumphed 6-2 against Steve Lennon, while Noppert was too strong for Jose Justicia.

World Champion and world number one Michael Smith opened up with a 6-1 win over Richard Veenstra, whilst the likes of Damon Heta, Peter Wright and Dave Chisnall all also safely navigated their opening ties.

The only seed other than Cross to fall at the first hurdle was Ross Smith who lost 6-1 to Connor Scutt.
