"Probably about 80% of my income was from the darts": Former walk-on girl Charlotte Wood on immediate impact of PDC axe

Almost five years ago, the PDC Walk-On girls who accompanied the players to the stage were axed with Charlotte Wood and Daniella Allfree, the most recognizable duo who did it until a ban was implemented mainly due to the changing nature of the world.

Still a fixture on the exhibition circuit and releasing their own yearly calendar which has regularly sold out, they are still in demand but Wood opened up on the immediate impact of the sudden ban.

"When the darts stopped it was a big part of my working life," Wood said to Daily Star Sport. "Probably about 80% of my income was from the darts.

"When that stopped I had to find other routes. That was fine because there’s plenty of work out there but it was a shame because Daniella and I loved the job.

"It was a real shame. We were gutted because it literally stopped overnight. It is what it is, we just had to throw ourselves into our other work and we had to get on with it because we didn’t really have a choice.

"Obviously we are self-employed so we’re not under any kind of contract so when that work stops it just stops."

Being involved in those exhibitions, Wood admits that her and Allfree would've had a shelf life anyway in the PDC but appreciates that fans still recognize them and want them back.

"The fans say it straight away when they see us," she says, smiling. "It’s been five years now and bless them they’re still saying it. It is lovely, but it’s hard. It’s not going to come back. I’m 35 next year so I probably wouldn’t be doing them now anyway, they’d be using girls who are a bit younger!"
