Raman dumps out Clayton, Van Barneveld edges past Smith as Players Championship 18 begins

The action has begun at Players Championship 18 with many of the top seeds moving through but some big names have gone out in Barnsley already.
Among them is Jonny Clayton with the form woes of 'The Ferret' continuing with an early defeat to Brian Raman who averaged 94 in sealing a 6-4 win. While Michael Smith is also out losing to Raymond van Barneveld 6-5.
Ryan Searle has defeated Northern Irish rising star, Josh Rock who averaged 113 yesterday and has been consistent all season on the ProTour. While Rob Cross has been similarly consistent but lost 6-3 to Scott Waites.
There were wins though for Luke Humphries (6-3 v Jamie Clark), Peter Wright (6-2 v. Ross Montgomery), Damon Heta (6-2 v Darius Labanauskas), Gerwyn Price (6-1 v Boris Koltsov) and Joe Cullen (6-1 v Kevin Doets).
