Raymond Smith breezed past Devon Petersen who was out of sorts and not at his best at the 2021/22 PDC World Darts Championship.
Smith spoke afterwards and wasn't pleased to see Petersen go through darting turmoil at times on the stage.
"Luckiest man we will put it that way. That wasn't Devon Petersen but I'm through to the third round, I'll keep it in perspective," said Smith post match.
"You don't like to see quality human beings going through that. I'm a massive Devon fan, I didn't like it and I don't know if that was the reason I was so flat. It is what it is, it's done."
There were plans from Smith to go home before his win against Petersen and he now has to rethink his plans.
"These are the things you plan for before you come over, like I don't come over to lose in the first or second round. We had plans in place that if I lost tonight, we'd be straight to get a test to fly out tomorrow. But now everything's back in play but we've planned for this. We knew this was a possibility. We're ready."
There is a real possibility that he will potentially get a Tour Card with a few more wins but he is not prepared yet to give up his life back home.
"If I get a Tour Card, that's going to be a very interesting conversation. But it's not something I'm focusing on at the moment. I love my life, I love my job, I love the people I work with so it's not on the cards."
"At the same time, I like this gig. When I want it I can do it."
Especially when last time he was here, something which has affected him forever happened.
"The last time I was here for Christmas, my brother committed suicide. Darts got a lot of blame for that, I'm going to have a lot of conversations with family back home. Do I fly them out here now."
