Results Players Championship 17, Last 128: Wade, Whitlock and White crash out in first round

The first round of action has been completed at Players Championship 17 in Wigan with the likes of James Wade, Simon Whitlock and Ian White all falling at the first hurdle.

White suffered a surprise defeat to Shaun Carroll who a Challenge Tour win aside hasn't really been pulling up trees this year. He averaged 97 though in a 6-4 win.

Wade and Whitlock lost though to two in form players. 'The Machine' lost out to Luke Humphries who recently claimed a Development Tour title and always has the ability to claim the win.

'The Wizard' lost out to Jose de Sousa who of course last weekend played brilliantly in reaching the Quarter-Finals of a European Tour event on debut.

The bigger news comes in the World Matchplay race; a lot is at stake this weekend in terms of places for Blackpool and for the likes of Ryan Searle, Keegan Brown and Steve West having their chances dented.

Kyle Anderson, James Wilson, Ross Smith and Gabriel Clemens though on the other hand are through successfully and with a good run, will keep their chances alive.
