Josh Rock and
Damon Heta have their first wins of the 2022
Grand Slam of Darts after victories over Scott Williams and Leonard Gates respectively in two contrasting games to begin Night Two.
Rock held firm to deny his fellow debutant in a 5-4 victory in Group H with four 180's and a 96.6 average as he keeps his hopes alive of moving through.
It started with a moment of brilliance as Rock produced a 145 checkout to begin the tie. It remained level from there until Rock broke throw to go one away at 4-2 up.
But the game had a few more twists yet as missed match darts allowed Williams back in at 4-3 and he soon forced a decider only for Rock to hit a 13-darter on double 20 to finally move through.
While in stark contrast, a series of criminal counting errors costed Gates a first victory on his debut as Damon Heta snatched a deciding leg win to get his points total going.
Heta recovered from 4-1 down initially and in going for 70 to win the match at 4-3 up, Gates thought he left 50 so went for the 16 segment but in reality allowed Heta in and the miscounts continued for the match as 'Soldier' went 135 for the 165 using single 15 to leave double 15 and this meant after three missed at the tricky double, 'The Heat' returned for an double six and the win.
