Rowby-John Rodriguez only just didn’t reclaim his Tour Card at Q-School but has received a lifeline of sorts in making up the numbers at the
Super Series.
A role which he admits that he relishes and gives him confidence which has reflected in recent results.
“I said to Mensur Suljovic on the first day that it all felt very different. I don't have a Tour Card. Still, I have the privilege to play and there is a lot less pressure, '' he looked back to dartn.de on his participation in the Super Series.
''That was also noticeable in my results. And then the self-confidence comes back. Winning against such big names has been an absolute exception and lately I manage that several times in a short time. In the meantime I no longer have any stress in my private life and that is immediately noticeable when playing darts. I also show more fighting spirit, something I have been missing for a long time. I was always a fighter. But all in all, I've been amazed at myself over the last few weeks.”
Another interesting facet comes with World Cup of Darts contention and for Rodriguez, it is a potential goal he had to regain his spot.
“I already knew after the Q-School that Harald Leitinger didn't play much and the other Austrians also start from scratch. That is why it was clear to me that I have a good chance at the World Cup of Darts anyway. That is my goal and I would also like to make it to the other tournaments.”
“Ideally, I would be in the top 64 at the end of the year, but it is not certain that I will be able to participate in every tournament. It is different for Harald Leitinger and Zoran Lerchbacher, they are always allowed to participate. I have to hope that I can move up as a substitute every time. In that respect, I hope that the Challenge Tour will be delayed as long as possible, otherwise I will have to earn my reserve position all over again.”
