Smith after brilliant Ratajski win to top Group C: "I could have won all the legs he did"

Michael Smith is through to the Last 16 at the Grand Slam of Darts after defeating Krzysztof Ratajski in a 5-2 win with a 107 average.

Smith said afterwards that he had it in the back of his mind that if he won a leg he'd be through but that he wanted to go through unbeaten.

"I'm a bit annoyed with myself because I knew when I won that first leg, I'd qualified. I kind of took my foot off then realizing I don't want to go into the next round with a loss so I'm glad I got my foot back on it and managed to get the convincing win in the end," said Smith post match.

"I could have won all the legs he did but when I checked the 71 and I knew he'd gone then. He just started launching them. He started trying to keep up with me so I kind of thought that meant he was out as well."

"I knew he needed a result from me. I'm not best of friends with Jose, I talk to him as friends but I'm not like best mates. It was like if he's going to get knocked out and Krzysztof's going to go through. I've got to show that Krzysztof is going to have to earn it."
