Steve Beaton has failed to bid farewell to the PDC Tour with an another appearance at the final World Darts Championship. In his final season, ‘The Bronzed Adonis’ failed to qualify for the tournament in Ally Pally.
The 1996 world champion already had 33 World Championship appearances to his name and announced after the last World Darts Championship that 2024 would be his last year on the PDC Tour. Beaton could not qualify through the Pro Tour, giving him one last chance at the qualifying tournament for Tour Card holders on Monday. There, Beaton lost 6-5 to Darren Beveridge in his first match.
Jose de Sousa and Simon Whitlock are two other big names who will be absent from the upcoming World Darts Championship. De Sousa went down 6-4 against Rhys Griffin, ending his run of six consecutive World Championship appearances. Whitlock will be absent from Alexandra Palace for the first time since his debut in 2010. ‘The Wizard’ lost to Paul Krohne during the qualifying tournament. With Martijn Dragt, Jeffrey de Zwaan and Berry van Peer there are three Dutchmen in the last sixteen at the qualifying tournament. Andy Baetens is the only Belgian still in the running for a World Championship ticket. Well-known names like Boris Krcmar, Adam Hunt, Mervyn King and Rowby-John Rodriguez are also still in the race.
