Michael Smith is through to the Quarter-Finals at the European Championship in Gottingen after surviving a close shave against Stephen Bunting.

Smith moved into a 9-5 lead but swallowed some ice which slowed his charge, this allowed Bunting back in but in reality, the gap was too large and 'Bully Boy' successfully moved through to the latter stages.
He said afterwards that he is pleased to get the win and that keeping going in the tournament is the most important thing for him.
“I felt good and all of a sudden I swallowed a bit of ice when I was having a drink, my eyes were watering whilst I was trying to take out 96,” joked Smith after the game.
“I’m just happy to get the win, that’s the most important thing and I’m still going for tomorrow.”
