The reigning PDC World Darts Champion and world ranked number one Michael Smith has been honoured in his hometown of St Helens by being gifted the freedom of the borough.
Michael Smith achieved his darting destiny at the start of 2023, beating Michael van Gerwen in the final of the PDC World Darts Championship at Alexandra Palace and becoming the champion of the world. Now, in honour of his vast success in the world of darts, his hometown of St Helens has granted him the freedom of the borough.
Alongside Smith, rugby league legend James Roby, member of Parliament Marie Rimmer and the Duke of Lancaster regiment has all also been gifted with the honour.
The honourees are set to recieve their scrolls that officially grant them freedom of the borough some time later this year.
