Spellman wins CDC Continental Cup, seals spot at US Darts Masters next year

Alex Spellman has been one of the top talents on the CDC this year outside of the well-known names and he showcased that by winning the CDC Continental Cup over the weekend.

Spellman had made it to the final after beating Keith Way (5-4), Stowe Buntz (6-5) and David Cameron (7-5), only to face Doug Boehm.

In the final Boehm took a 7-3 lead, but the American squandered several match darts in the twelfth leg and then had no more chances for the final win. Spellman came back to 7-7 with a series of good legs and then decided the match with an 18-darter.

With this title, he is the first qualifier for the 2023 US Darts Masters so will play at Madison Square Garden.

In years gone by, this has been used as a PDC World Darts Championship qualification route and still could with one more qualifier set to be announced but as of writing, it will only gain him World Series qualification.
