Jules van Dongen's run has ended at the
German Darts Championship running into
Stephen Bunting in the last sixteen on Sunday afternoon.
Van Dongen did not get off to a very sharp start and especially in the fourth leg he missed. The Dutch American missed four chances to make it 2-2, after which Bunting hit a 16-darter to make it 3-1. An 18-darter by the Englishman then made it 4-1.
However, thanks to a 15-darter and a 122 finish, Van Dongen came back to 4-4, making the match exciting again. Van Dongen had one chance at 5-4 in the ninth leg, but missed the double 14. Bunting then threw a 13-darter for 5-4, after which Van Dongen also threw a 13-darter to make it 5-5. The deciding leg was then a 14-darter win for 'The Bullet'.
Bunting will face
Ricardo Pietreczko in the quarterfinals. Thanks in part to a 14-darter and a 12-darter, the German took an early 4-1 lead against George Killington. Pietreczko eventually won 6-2 against 'The Killer', who reached the last sixteen at a Euro Tour tournament for the first time.
