Stompé provides anecdote on Fordham: 'I had to wait for him every fifty meters because he was panting'

Andy Fordham passed away last year at the age of 59. Co Stompé, a contemporary of The Viking, brings up a fun anecdote about their time together.

Stompé was on his way to a exhibition tournament with Fordham a few years ago. "We had some time left and decided to have a drink at a café in town. However, because the road was closed, we had to make the last part uphill on foot. Every fifty meters I had to wait because Andy was panting", Stompé laughs.

Drunk

"When we finally arrived at the café, we went to watch Formula 1 on television, but after a few minutes Andy already wanted to sit on the terrace," continues Stompé. We then drank a few beers and he really wanted to get me drunk. So he ordered twenty bottles at once, ten for you and ten for me, he said. I had already had enough, so Andy decided to drink them all by himself."

When both men arrived at the exhibition tournament, Stompé wasn't drunk that much. "But you couldn't see anything on Andy. Oh well, it was such an incredibly likable guy that you just couldn't be mad at it.
