Phil Taylor has yet to catch light in World Seniors tournaments and despite an 8-4 win over
Deta Hedman, it was an under par effort from ‘The Power’ who failed to find his spark with just a 75 average.
Going forward in the
World Seniors Darts Matchplay, he will now play John Part or Peter Manley but Taylor says he’s trying to navigate a myriad of factors and get his game back.
“It was very very hard, I can’t try any harder. Deta is someone everyone thinks the world of. She is a difficult player to beat, she is very steady,” said Taylor.
“I tried too hard, that’s the trouble. I’m trying to impress; you’re trying to entertain these people as they’ve paid good money to see you. They’re like Phil play like you did in the 90’s but I can’t. It’s so difficult but I’ve got to try, my grandson Matthew is with me every day and we’re trying to figure out how to put this right.”
“I think I need my eyes done. I need a new hip. My teeth are falling out. My hair's going grey,” to which Bobby George replied “And you want another arm, don't you?”
“I’d love to get back playing like I can because if Kevin (Painter) or that lad from Ireland, Colin (McGarry) plays their natural game, you’re up against it. We’re still around trebles but because you’re not in it you start pushing them. You start sweating.”
As he joked, Taylor said it’s not to do with money and is more pride than anything.
“I’m alright for money but half of these are skint, he isn’t (looking at Bobby George),” he joked.
