Michael van Gerwen won his third week in a row in the
Premier League Darts on Thursday night in Newcastle. 'Mighty Mike' thus, of course, further consolidates his lead in the standings.
Van Gerwen was too strong for Nathan Aspinall in the final, 6-4. "If you look at my game against Gerwyn Price I was fantastic, but against Luke Littler and Nathan Aspinall I could have made it easier for myself. That is darts sometimes," said the 34-year-old Dutchman afterwards. "You don’t want to put yourself in difficult positions, but when you’re playing against the best players in the world, it’s going to be tense, it’s going to be awkward and you have to deal with that situation."
“My confidence is great. I want to battle, I want to perform and I want to show people what I’m capable of," Van Gerwen continued. "Of course there is still more in the tank, but there is still a very long way to go.”
Since the introduction of the current Premier League Darts format, no one has ever won four nights in a row. "It's going to happen to me next week," concluded a confident Van Gerwen.
