These top players including Peter Wright and Nathan Aspinall risk missing out on qualification for Players Championship Finals

This week, four Players Championship tournaments will be played in Barnsley. For many players, there are important days ahead toward qualifying for the major television tournaments.

Thus, the Players Championship tournaments are the only route toward qualifying for the Players Championship Finals. The top-64 of the Players Championship Order of Merit after thirty tournaments may participate. By now, 24 of the 30 tournaments have been played.

Most of the big names are already sure of qualifying for the final tournament. But there are still a number of well-known players who will have to work hard to qualify for the Players Championship Finals.

The biggest absentee in the virtual field of participants is Peter Wright. 'Snakebite' only earned £9750 at the Players Championship tournaments for the time being and needs to bridge a £4,000 gap in the remaining six tournaments. Nathan Aspinall is also outside the qualifying spots. The World Matchplay champion currently stands at £10,250.

Steve Beaton (13,250 pounds), Martijn Kleermaker (12,000 pounds), Jeffrey de Zwaan (12,000 pounds), Mensur Suljovic (11,250 pounds), Ricky Evans (11,000 pounds), Vincent van der Voort (9750 pounds) and Mervyn King (9750 pounds) will all also have to play (considerable) catch-up during the upcoming tournaments.

The number 64 (Rowby-John Rodriguez) in the rankings currently has £13,750 in prize money. It is expected that players will have enough to £17,500 to qualify permanently.
