THROWBACK VIDEO: Michael van Gerwen throws seventeen perfect darts during 2013 World Darts Championship semi-final

Friday, Dec. 15 marks the start of the 31st edition of the PDC World Darts Championship. In the run-up to the start of this iconic tournament, Dartsnews.com looks back at beautiful and notable events from the history of the illustrious event.

Michael van Gerwen provided one of the greatest moments ever at the World Darts Championship on December 30, 2012. The Dutchman came agonisingly close to throwing two nine darters in a row.

The three-time world champion threw a nine-darter in the fifth set and then started the leg again with two 180s. Van Gerwen then also threw his 16th and 17th perfect arrow in a row, but then narrowly missed the double 12 to make history.

Incidentally, in 2017, Van Gerwen did manage to produce two nine-starters in one match. This was during a Pro Tour tournament in Wigan.
