Dimitri van den Bergh is competing in the
World Grand Prix this week for the fifth time in his career. Speaking with
VTM 2, 'The Dreammaker' looks ahead to the double-in double-out tournament.
''It is always a tournament that is very special,'' Van den Bergh stated. ''I've been able to show great things there in the past and beat big names, but with a double start like that, so much can happen. The most important thing is that you hit the double with your first three darts.''
Van den Bergh, who managed to reach the quarterfinals at last year's World Grand Prix, begins his participation this year against Chris Dobey. It will be the fourteenth meeting between the Belgian and the Englishman, with Van den Bergh leading 7-6.
''It's a tough draw. Chris Dobey I know well. From what I can remember we always have super good matches. He's been playing better this year and has had the experience of the Premier League. It's going to be tough, but I keep believing in what I can do.''
If Van den Bergh wins against 'Hollywood', he might play against Michael van Gerwen, who still has to deal with Josh Rock. In 2018, Van den Bergh won the first televised duel with Van Gerwen, but the 11 subsequent clashes all went to the Dutchman.
''So I get to play again,'' Van den Bergh looks ahead cautiously. ''Van Gerwen so again close to me in the draw. But I always keep saying; one day I will beat him.
