Dimitri van den Bergh came through a close tie with Michael Smith to begin his
World Grand Prix campaign despite the straight sets scoreline.
Van den Bergh said it is a box ticked after victory due to losing in the first round last year and he also discussed the knee brace which he admits will be on for the foreseeable until he can find some time to get the surgery.
"I'm feeling good, I'm happy the way I played. I can only tell myself this is a next hurdle I've accomplished, that I've achieved because last year I played the first round and I didn't manage to win and now I did. I felt stronger, I felt good," said Van den Bergh to Online Darts post match.
"I played at the World Series (of Darts) Finals with the knee brace and the Autumn Series with the knee brace and I've learnt how it feels. From that moment on I've got to continue because I've got to walk with it until the next surgery. The next surgery will happen as soon as the PDC calendar allows it. So I'll be walking around with the knee brace until I know I have a few weeks off."
