Dirk van Duijvenbode has reached the quarterfinals at the
International Darts Open at the expense of Danny Noppert.
Van Duijvenbode was in a class of his own on the scoring, including eight 180s. Noppert, however, did a lot better on the finishes (71 to 35 percent), keeping the match exciting until the end.
In the first leg, Van Duijvenbode threw a 12-darter, but then Noppert already issued a warning with a handsome 122 finish. Van Duijvenbode then missed six chances for 2-1, after which Noppert did find the double. Two more breaks followed, before Van Duijvenbode scored 3-3 with an 11-darter.
A 14-darter and a 46 finish took 'Aubergenius' to 5-4 before Noppert had a chance to force a deciding leg on his own leg. He succeeded via double 10 after Van Duijvenbode missed two matchdarts. In the last leg Van Duijvenbode finished it off with a 14-darter.
In the quarterfinals Van Duijvenbode will meet
Damon Heta, who was too strong for home hero Niko Springer 6-3.
