The
World Grand Prix is the tournament where
Dirk van Duijvenbode experienced his big breakthrough two years ago with a surprising final spot. He lost that final to Gerwyn Price, who also defeated him in the final of the World Series of Darts Finals in Amsterdam last month.
At that tournament in the AFAS Live, Van Duijvenbode managed to win against Jonny Clayton, among others. 'The Ferret' is the champion at the World Grand Prix and Van Duijvenbode's opponent in the first round of the World Grand Prix.
''He is not the easiest opponent,'' Van Duijvenbode commented to AD Sportwereld ahead of his upcoming clash. ''He won't see me as a breeze either. I think we're both not happy about it, but we're just going to play. Against Clayton, you know he's not going to do any tomfoolery. It's just 'throw darts' and the best one wins.'
Since his breakthrough two years ago, Van Duijvenbode managed to win three PDC titles, reaching a total of three television finals. Those television finals 'Aubergenius' did not yet manage to turn a win.
''Now it has to happen on stage'', Van Duijvenbode states. ''I really live for that and want that very much. But I don't put a time limit on it. You can count yourself lucky if you ever win a television tournament, then your career is a success. Amsterdam was the perfect opportunity and in good form I would have won there."
