Van Duijvenbode was not thinking about Price clash: "The whole day I was overloaded with negativity"

Dirk van Duijvenbode did not manage to qualify for the quarter finals of the PDC World Darts Championship. 'Aubergenius' went down 4-1 against Gerwyn Price in the fourth round.

Van Duijvenbode did win the opening set, but afterwards he lost twelve legs in a row. "But this has nothing to do with an off-day, but with all the fuss around this match. Since Michael van Gerwen and Vincent van der Voort had a positive covid test I have been bombarded with questions. The whole day I was overloaded with negativity and on top of that I was afraid to see what the result of my COVID-19 test would be. Just try to prepare for this match in a normal way, it was almost impossible", the 29-year-old Dutchman told RTL 7.

Constantly thinking

"I was constantly thinking during the match," Van Duijvenbode continued. "There were chances though, because Price didn't start the match very well either. Afterwards he indeed started to play better, but that was mainly because I didn't hit anything anymore. I couldn't get into my normal rhythm. I tried my hardest to make something out of this match, but it just wasn't there."
