While Jonny Clayton is well known for his plastering days previously, Alan Soutar is a full-time fireman and is into the Last 16 of the PDC
World Darts Championship.
Michael van Gerwen was full of praise for Soutar after defeating Mensur Suljovic saying he has come a long way despite having a life off the oche.
“He's been on the Tour for two or three years now and he's a good darts player, but I was fighting fires on stage all night in my game against Mensur Suljovic as well," said Van Gerwen as per
Daily Star.
“Maybe it's unusual to have a fireman in the last 16 of the world championship, but his darts have come a long way and fair play to him, he does well for himself.
But while that's the case for Soutar, Van Gerwen admits he berated Clayton for keeping his £10 an hour job while being a full-time pro up till recently.
“Jonny Clayton won the Premier League and other majors on TV when he was working as a plasterer, and I keep telling him what an idiot he was.
“He was missing out on time on the practice board when he was plastering for £10 an hour or whatever. If he had practised more, he could have won more tournaments, couldn't he?”
