Van Gerwen celebrates World Matchplay with family in Mallorca: 'Enjoy the moment, that's the most important thing'

Michael van Gerwen won the World Matchplay on Sunday night for the third time in his career. After a thrilling final he defeated Gerwyn Price 18-14.

It's his second major title of the season, after Van Gerwen also won the Premier League Darts in June. He could hardly celebrate that title as he underwent surgery on his arm with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome one day later.

Again, there will be no big party in his hometown Vlijmen. 'Mighty Mike' said after his World Matchplay final that he has planned a holiday.

"I will fly from here to Mallorca. Daphne (his wife) and the kids will fly from the Netherlands and we'll see each other there", Van Gerwen said.

Under the Spanish sun, however, there will be a toast to his magnificent performance in Blackpool. "Definitely, one hundred percent. And enjoy the moment with the children. That's the most important thing.''
