Michael van Gerwen and Jermaine Wattimena made no attempt to hide their disappointment after losing to Ireland in the semi-finals at the World Cup of Darts.
The Dutch duo were beaten by Ireland in the semi-finals. Van Gerwen secured a first point for the Netherlands after defeating Steve Lennon, but were forced to play a deciding pair match after Wattimena lost to William O'Connor. Ireland outplayed the Dutch team in the doubles game, before Lennon and O'Connor
lost to Scotland in the final.
''Maybe we wanted it too much. It was bad, I'm hugely disappointed'', Van Gerwen told RTL 7. ''I made a mess of it in the start and struggled throughout the whole tournament. Unfortunately it was not to be.''
''Ireland played great, they hit everything. But I blame myself. Jermaine can play better as well, let's be honest. I have seen him play so many good matches'', he continued. ''We ruined our own chances by not playing well enough'', Wattimena added.
