Van Gerwen edges Anderson in battle of missed doubles, Gurney sees off Wade in superb display

Michael van Gerwen and Daryl Gurney have pedigree of winning the Players Championship Finals and they are both into the Quarter-Finals in Minehead.

For Van Gerwen who openly criticised the conditions on the return to Minehead, it was a battle of the missed darts at double as he hit 10/25 averaging 95 with five 180's.

This compared to a 90 average, six 180's and 6/31 from Anderson who lost out in a 10-6 defeat as their rivalry continued.

A theme from the very start, Anderson missed eight darts at double in the first three legs giving Van Gerwen a 3-0 lead.

He surged away only for Anderson to come back to 8-6 down. Having five darts to make it 8-7, he missed all his chances and this proved pivotal as Van Gerwen went onto win 10-6 and will play Peter Wright tomorrow.

While 2018 winner, Daryl Gurney surged past James Wade in a brilliant display from 'Superchin' as he showed form he has displayed at times this year.

This was in a 10-7 win with a 104.3 average and 62.5% on the doubles and he will now face Ryan Searle tomorrow.
