Michael van Gerwen was in tears after finally ending his longest title drought since 2012 at the Nordic Darts Masters this past weekend.
Van Gerwen's dominance is shown in recent years by his first title with many coming either during the Masters or at the latest, the first ProTour tournaments of the year.

His previous latest title win came during the 2020-21 season when his first came on March 8.
The onus has been on the Green Machine all year and why he is not picking up titles despite many close shaves en route but he now finally has ended his longest ever title drought with his first since the Players Championship Finals in 2020.
