Josh Rock came close to beating Peter Wright's world record average at
Players Championship 22 on Wednesday. However, the Northern Irishman also came close to breaking
Michael van Gerwen's record.
Rock averaged 121.88 in his win against Brendan Dolan (6-1). He was only a fraction away from Wright's record, which stands at 123.50 since 2019.
Especially on scoring, he went on a rampage. Over his first nine darts, he threw an average of 136. After nine darts, he only had 93 points left.
The highest first-9 average after ten years is still Van Gerwen's. During the Championship League Darts in 2012 'Mighty Mike' recorded a first-9 match average of 142.83. After nine arrows Van Gerwen stood at 142, 16, 16, 47, 130 and 84 in his six played legs.
