Michael van Gerwen has been impressed by the performance of Gabriel Clemens during the PDC
World Darts Championship. The German lost to Michael Smith in the semi-final on Monday night after a sensational tournament.
The 'German Giant' had earlier impressed by sending world number one Gerwyn Price home 5-1 in the quarter-finals. Van Gerwen, who faces Smith in the World Darts Championship final on Tuesday night, was surprised by Clemens' results at Alexandra Palace.
''This is definitely a big boost for darts in Germany,'' Van Gerwen said in conversation with Germany's DAZN. ''In my opinion, Germany has been waiting for this moment for a very long time.''
''In my opinion, Gabriel did very well, of course also because absolutely nobody expected it. Gabriel still managed to show phenomenal darts under great pressure. All respect to Gabriel Clemens. Too bad he is now out,'' the Dutchman concluded.
