Michael van Gerwen has claimed victory on the opening night of the Premier League and is set for a table topping clash with Glen Durrant who he has called 'boring' in the run-up.
Van Gerwen defeated Rob Cross with relative ease and was pleased with his game; while also admitting himself that he can see the struggle in the former World Champion.
"Of course I'm over the moon. Especially the way how I played I think I was dominant, I did all the right things at the right moments," said Van Gerwen to Online Darts.
"My scoring power was there and that gives you confidence also for the next upcoming days and of course it's going to be tough. Anderson playing really well earlier on, Glen (Durrant) he's top of the table not now anymore because we're one game less."
"He's struggling a lot to find not only his second or third game even his first game because you can see the weakness in someone's eyes, you can feel it. He was underperforming and everyone knows and everyone can see that. At that moment you have to take advantage."
He has a 2-0 deficit record wise going into his tie with Glen Durrant but he admits it means nothing. Despite that though, he is not resting on his laurels and knows if he doesn't play well he will be punished.
"It's only two games. I lost two games to Toon Greebe before and I'm 2-0 down to him as well; that doesn't say anything.
Of course Glen is a phenomenal player, you have to play your A game if you want to beat him. He's not only a good player but a boring player, he sucks the energy out of you. It's tough to play him, he's like a silent killer."
