Van Gerwen takes responsibility for bad day at the office at European Championship: "I just did badly"

The European Championship ended in a defeat for Michael van Gerwen on Friday night. He went down 6-5 against Chris Dobey in the first round.
''This was a very weird match. Really very weird," he said afterwards to Viaplay. ''We were both quite bothered by the wind, but he handled that better than I did.''
Still, Van Gerwen had chances to win the match. The four-time European Championship winner came back from a 2-4 lead to 4-4 and then took the lead with a 160 finish. In the tenth leg, however, 'Mighty Mike' missed four match darts.
''It just wasn't it for me today. I'm a rhythm player. If the first dart doesn't go, I have to work very hard. That doesn't work. I just did badly,'' Van Gerwen added.
