For all the talk before proceedings began on Day One of the PDC Summer Series of big name players struggling, the cream rose to the top in the end with Michael van Gerwen and Peter Wright facing it off in the final.
The top two players in the world faced off in the PDC World Championship Final at the start of the year with Wright fulfilling his darting destiny and winning the biggest title against all odds.
Going into proceedings though, both had different paths through to the final. Van Gerwen survived scares against William Borland and Callan Rydz while Wright seemed to get stronger and stronger.
This also rings true in terms of their titles won. Wright himself has long been a stalwart of the ProTour and winning these events; while Van Gerwen was chasing his first since February of last year and only his second ranking title of the season.
All amounted to an absolute thriller played out at the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes. The match has been uploaded in full on PDC’s
