James Wade easily qualified for the quarter-finals of the Grand Slam of Darts. The 27-year-old Rowby-John Rodriguez was beaten 10-2 by The Machine.
Rodriguez had lost all his previous six matches with Wade. The Austrian has been in good form recently, so this could have been a decent chance to beat the experienced Englishman for the first time in his career. Nothing turned out less true.
Rodriguez won the first leg with a 14-darter, but then saw Wade win nine legs in a row. Little John didn't even get a dart on a double in this phase, while Wade threw out 70, 80, 101 and 120.
With the score at 9-1, Rodriguez showed his class by throwing out 170. It turned out to be a reprieve, as Wade then finished the job on double 10 for a place in the last eight.
In the quarter-finals Wade will meet Rob Cross, who The Machine beat 5-2 in the group stage to reach the knockout stage in Wolverhampton.
