Ian White has claimed his first PDC ranking title of the season and his first Players Championship event in two years with victory over James Wade in Barnsley.
It is a tenth ProTour title and a 13th ranking title in total for White who finally has his reward for exceptional displays all year so far averaging upwards of 105 throughout.
An 8-3 victory in the end for the Stoke-on-Trent ace who defeated 'The Machine' who wasn't motoring in the final and couldn't really trouble White.
Over the course of the day, he has seen off William Borland (6-4), Diogo Portela (6-4), John Henderson (6-3), Stephen Bunting (6-2), Dave Chisnall (6-4) and Kim Huybrechts (7-4).
Only the Huybrechts performance saw him average less than 100 with most performances being again up in that 105 range.
He joins Nathan Aspinall in the
winners' circle this weekend in a double header that saw a depleted field due to Coronavirus fears and with the situation changing day by day, it could yet be the final action for some time.
