'Worst preparation I ever had for a game': Van Gerwen scrapes past Harrysson despite jet lag

Michael van Gerwen will play Peter Wright this afternoon at the Nordic Darts Masters are scraping past Andreas Harrysson 6-3 in Copenhagen with MVG not at his best.

But there was a reason for that with Van Gerwen jetlagged after his holiday coming back taking him 16 hours to go to Copenhagen but he stated the importance of taking a family holiday instead of going to Bahrain and admitted that players will regret it in a few months time.

"The worst preparation I ever had for a game. But I want to play in this, the PDC wanted me to play in this and of course the fans so then you need to try to fit things in. I just got enough time to make it over here,

"You have to pull out if you don't want to be here, I want to be here and that's why I'm here and playing but of course if you're competing, you need to be critical of yourself. There's a lot of points where I know I can do better but it's a nice warm-up for me towards the Masters and Premier League.

"All of the players choose not to have a holiday and I think they are going to regret it at the end of April, end of May as it's going to be all the ProTours and Euro Tours. You need to take some time off and especially with the family."

He also spoke about losing the World final and said he takes it on the chin and it's up to him now to rebuild and come back stronger.

"I'm a grown up man, I've lost finals before and on the long run, it makes you a stronger dart player. You need to take it on the chin and move on and that's exactly what I'm doing."
