Wright confident of World Matchplay success after Super Series triumph: "I'll win it and the Worlds"

Peter Wright produced an incredible display to stop Michael van Gerwen claiming his first title of 2021 once again as PDC Super Series 5 concluded with Players Championship 20.

It was a third ProTour title of the year for 'Snakebite' who noticably switched to new darts once more but with a familiar look and he was a big fan of them post match.

"I only got the Gold darts yesterday morning. First couple of days I played two fantastic players obviously Simon Whitlock and he hit a 177 to leave 40 in the last leg and that crucified me. I obviously played Mickey Mansell the following day, another fantastic player and he kicked off 180. It's nice to win a couple of games," said Wright post match.

"I like these darts, they're new and I love them - the way they look in the board as well.

He also had some confident words ahead of the World Matchplay with his target reiterated of a Winter Gardens triumph.

"I feel like I want to play proper darts, I didn't want to show too much before Blackpool. I'll win it and the World's."

He also singled out Chris Dobey for praise when his name was mentioned having claimed a maiden title during PDC Super Series 5.

"He's brilliant, he's lovely. If you watch that kid practice, the amount of nine darters he hits it's unreal. Chris Dobey's the future of darts, you look at him he looks young but he's not."

"I wouldn't want to draw him in the first round of the Matchplay but if it happens, it happens."
