Peter Wright began his
European Tour campaign for 2021 with a successful victory over Florian Hempel 6-3 and will now take on compatriot William Borland in the Last 16 of the
Hungarian Darts Trophy this afternoon.
Wright discussed returning to the European Tour as well as the pressure of having to win during the opening round in Budapest.
"It was obviously absolutely amazing to get to a European tournament again, it's fantastic and thanks to PDC to get everything organised for us to play. It's just like playing on TV again but bigger," said Wright to Online Darts.
"We have to win otherwise it doesn't go on your rankings, that's a horrible rule. You work hard to get to that position but that's the rules, we've got to play by them."
The action is coming thick and fast and the news broke during his post match interview that he would not be teaming with Gary Anderson at the World Cup of Darts this next week.
"Unfortunately Gary's not going to play but it's going to be me and big John Henderson so I'm going to look forward to that and me and big John are going to have a great big party and we're going to take it home."
