Wright storms past Cross to reach Grand Slam of Darts Quarter-Finals

Peter Wright is the final player from the first lot of Quarter-Finals at the Grand Slam of Darts to move through after victory over Rob Cross.

Wright eased through in a 10-3 win with a 98.5 average to book his place in the latter stages in what on the outset was a tough test but in the end 'Snakebite' stormed through.

There was three consecutive breaks of throw to start the match as Wright claimed a 2-1 lead over Cross but at the interval, Wright was 3-2 ahead in what was a close start to proceedings.

When they returned from the interval though, Wright took out 65 to lead 5-2 with a 107 average. He was firmly in control as he took out 102 to stretch his foothold to 6-2.

Another break saw him head towards the Quarter-Finals with a 103 average and 7/12 on the doubles as he went 7-2 up. Cross seemed resigned to his fate at 8-2 down at the next interval.

Wright mopped up 82 to break again and he moved within a leg of victory at 9-2. Cross stopped the rot with a 72 finish to trail 9-3 but this was only after Wright had missed the bull for the match.

Despite that, it didn't last long as Wright ended up winning through in a 10-3 win to counteract that and see 'Voltage' bow out.
