Young won the first event of the new season after defeating Dave Richardson 6-3 in the final. The American was also very close to secure a double win in Philadelphia as he had a 5-0 lead in his second final.
However 'Big Daddy' gave away this big advantage and lost the final 6-5 to
Jim Long. The Canadian appeared at the World Championship last year, where he
beat Mickey Mansell in the first round. Long
lost 3-2 in sets to 30th seed Benito van de Pas in the second rond.
