Hurrell makes winning Lakeside return after surgery: "I nearly died but I'm back"

James Hurrell is through his opener at the 2022 WDF Lakeside World Championship seeing off John Desreumaux in a scrappy affair.

Hurrell's best flourish came with a 141 checkout to win but it is a winning return after years off due to surgery and he revealed he is lucky to be there as a result.

"I've never felt so nervous in all my life, just unbelievable. Felt more nervous than going down for my operation four years ago to be fair," said Hurrell to Tungsten Tales.

"The first set was awful, that winning moment the nerves were shocking, I've never felt anything like that ever."

"I had nearly two and a half years off, I nearly died but I'm back."
