The World Darts Federation (WDF) has announced that Mary-Anne Teinaki will not be able to compete in the WDF World Darts Championship at Lakeside after all. According to the WDF, Teinaki cannot participate due to health reasons.
Teinaki qualified by winning last year's New Zealand Open, but due to a recent health problem, she cannot compete in the WDF World Championships this year.
In accordance with WDF rules, Teinaki's invitation to Lakeside was accepted by the highest-ranked player at the qualifying event who had not yet qualified on Monday, Nov. 28.
That player is Paula Jacklin, who returns to Lakeside for the seventh time at age 67. Jacklin will take on American Paula Murphy in the first round of the WDF Women's World Championship. Their encounter is scheduled for the afternoon session on Sunday, Dec. 1.
Jacklin is the wife of Des Jacklin, the former president of the British Darts Organization (BDO). Under Jacklin's reign, the BDO was declared bankrupt and defunct.
We are sad to announce that New Zealand’s Mary-Anne Teinaki has had to withdraw from the 2024 WDF Lakeside World Championships on medical grounds.
