Peter Manley saw off Deta Hedman reeling off five consecutive legs and showing some quality darts at times to win through to the second round of the
World Seniors Darts Championship.
Manley spoke afterwards and spoke about his experience returning to the stage after so long.
"I'm tired, I want to go to bed and get ready for tomorrow. It's a tough life, night after night and trying to perform. Phil's going to find it hard going straight up there, I've played a game now so I know roughly what to expect. I know the throw, the oche wasn't quite level with the dartboard but I'm just glad to be having this opportunity. It's got longevity, it's going to go on for years, hopefully long enough for someone like Wayne Mardle to have a go," said Manley post match.
"You've got to remember, it's like 15-20 years since I last threw on stage and this was like one of the best days, I loved it up there. We're all a bit older, you get a bit of a haze in front of your eyes and perhaps I should wear glasses. You try and do your best and that's all you can do."
In terms of returning to the Circus Tavern, he said he has loved every minute of it.
"As soon as I was invited, I loved it and I probably didn't give the work into it but then I wasn't allowed because of the commitments elsewhere but I've really enjoyed the experience."
Next up is a certain Phil Taylor in a highly awaited clash and it is one he doesn't see as revenge.
"Phil's the greatest player in my era - if I was around at any other time, I would have probably done like Keith Deller and won it once and worked off it for the rest of my life but I wasn't."
"I don't look at it as revenge, I'm just so glad to have the opportunity to play. If he wants to beat someone or hammer someone, it'll be me."
