Michael van Gerwen could only enjoy one match of the new format in the
Premier League Darts on Thursday night. The 32-year-old Dutchman went down in the quarter-finals against Gary Anderson (6-4).
The Premier League Darts will be played in a tournament format this year. The eight participants play sixteen times a tournament.
Points can be scored with the results of these sixteen tournaments. A semi-final earns two points, a second place three points and a tournament win five points and a £10,000 bonus. The four best players advance to the play-offs of the Premier League Darts.
Van Gerwen looked back on his performance after his baptism of fire in Cardiff with mixed feelings. "I'm close, but not quite there yet."
"I could have beaten Gary, but I didn't throw well enough to do that. Some legs were fine, but there were also some poor legs", said Van Gerwen to AD.
