Phil Taylor has won his first match at the
World Seniors Darts Championship. It wasn't convincing, but The Power took care of
Peter Manley in four sets. Taylor had an average of 81, against 74 for Manley.
It was a clash between two Englishmen with a history, as they faced each other in the World Championship finals three times in 1999, 2002 and 2006. The first one was won by Taylor 6-2, the last two even with 6-0 and 7-0 in sets.
This time Manley did take a set, as he took out 84 to win the first set 3-2. After that Taylor only conceded one more leg. Set two and three went to the Stoke on Trent ace with 3-0 and 3-1.
Also in the fourth set Manley did not get on the scoreboard. Taylor took that set 3-0 and forced a meeting with Kevin Painter in the Quarter-Finals.
Taylor and Painter faced each other in the 2004 World Championship final, which was also played in Circus Tavern in Purfleet. That game was won by 'The Power' after a leg-decider.
