Suzuki retains BDO Ladies World Championship title with victory over Ashton

Mikuru Suzuki has continued her unbeaten run at the BDO Ladies World Championship defeating Lisa Ashton in a 3-0 win to become a two-time World Champion.

At times it was a lot more closer than the scoreline suggested with Ashton having a dart to halve the deficit in the final set; but it was Suzuki who raised her game when it mattered hitting an 83 average with three 180's to retain her title that she won 12 months ago.

Suzuki eased through the first set 3-1 with double 10 seeing the defending champion head 1-0 up. The next set was a lot closer with 'The Miracle' claiming it 3-2; Ashton was playing well but not making her chances count meaning Suzuki went one away from the title.

A 180 followed by a 61 checkout saw Suzuki break through to begin the third set and head towards the title. Ashton showed some fighting spirit smashing in a 118 checkout; with Suzuki missing multiple chances to hold her throw.

Suzuki stayed with Ashton on her throw but a brilliant 180 which saw her darts go perfectly into the treble 20 put 'The Lancashire Rose' into a 2-1 lead; with a 44 checkout to finish it off. Could this be the catalyst for a comeback?

Suzuki missed a 116 checkout on double 18 in the next leg but was under pressure by Ashton who missed a 112 checkout for the set. The Japanese ace though went one away as a result after initially having multiple darts at double missed.

Then a 140 start from Suzuki was discounted with two visits running of 45 and Ashton was given six darts at least of 148. She left 90 but missed it giving Suzuki a dart for the title; which she pinned to claim it in straight sets.
