The 11th tournament of the Players Championship 2025 was completed yesterday at the Mattioli Arena in Leicester. The final victory went to Cameron Menzies, who won 8-3 over his compatriot Peter Wright in the final. For Menzies, it was already his third final this year at the Players Championship, but only the first tournament he actually managed to win as well.
That the final of a Players Championship tournament is played between two Scots is quite exceptional. The last time this happened again was in 2018, when Gary Anderson defeated Peter Wright 6-0 in the final of the third Players Championship of the year.
Incidentally, it was only the tenth time since the inception of the Players Championship that a final was played by two Scots. Gary Anderson played in no less than eight of those 10 finals and also won seven of them.
Peter Wright, on the other hand, featured in seven of the ten "Scottish finals," but he could only win one of those seven. That happened in 2012, when he won 6-1 over Robert Thornton in the final of the fifteenth Players Championship of the year.
Thornton himself was involved in four finals and managed to win one of them, specifically in 2012, when he won 6-5 over Gary Anderson in the final of the fourteenth Players Championship of the year.
The Players Championship 2025 continues today in Leicester with the twelfth tournament scheduled.

Anderson was in the semis as well so 3 of 4 players were Scottish.
