Gurney new leader on European Tour Order of Merit after maiden glory

Daryl Gurney claimed a maiden European Tour title over the weekend in Hildesheim and this has propelled him up to first in the European Tour Order of Merit.
He is £5,000 more than Michael van Gerwen due to the Dutchman's poor time of it in Hildesheim saw him exit out at the earliest stage.
Rob Cross is next up with £13,000 after another good run this past weekend and the top five is rounded out by Peter Wright and Ricky Evans.
Evans of course reached the final on Sunday night losing out to Gurney but will likely secure his place in the European Championship at this early stage with this performance.
Of the big names further down, they include Dave Chisnall, Steve Beaton and Ian White who are just inside the top 20.
It is early days though and this will likely change massively by the final event.

- Maybe the supposed top players are burnt out from the endless travelling and tournaments, I just don't think they have the dedication or outright desire to win. I think they are more interested in the money and being popular, just keeping their rankings steady. The only thing that mattered to Phil Taylor was winning, not winning a few games to top up the money pot and seeking the fans attention. Maybe there is too many tournaments now and the enthusiasm is gone. This year especially has seen so many different winners and unexpected draws and line ups.richieburnettrocks14-11-2024
